Remerciements à Andrew Hall qui a eu l'amabilité de nous communiquer nombre de lettres adressées par Nelson à E Blampied. 31st July 1919 (382) Dear Sir, Herewith we are sending you two French novels Les Deracines and L'Appel au Soldat. Will you kindly send us sketches for wrappers for these books. They are for the same series for which you did the wrapper for Colette Baudoche by Maurice Barres and we wish the wrappers in this cases to be done in a somewhat similar style, but kindly let us see sketches in the first instance. 13th August 1919 (63) Dear Sir, Many thanks for the two sketches which we return herewith. L'Appel au Soldat will, we think, make a most effective cover. The other one we like too. The only feeling we have is that there is rather a lack of colour though we quite appreciate your desire to make it look sombre in tone. Perhaps you could find some way of adding a little bit of colour, such as blue sky or a cloud. It might be worthwhile too, to bring a few lines down to carry an indication of drawing down to the foot of the cover. We only make these suggestions and would not like you to do anything to the drawing you do not yourself approve of. Yours faithfully, for T. Nelson and Sons. |
